Dr. Danica Wolkowski
Associate Veterinarian, Equine Surgery
Dr. Danica Wolkowski grew up in Abbotsford, BC, but Saskatchewan has always been home. Both of her parents come from small-town Saskatchewan, so moving to Saskatoon at 18 felt less like leaving home and more like coming back to it.
She earned a degree in agriculture before going on to veterinary school at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. From there, she headed to the central coast of California for a one-year rotating internship at Steinbeck Peninsula Equine Clinics. It’s a high-volume, high-caseload practice where she saw a bit of everything and had ample opportunity to build hands-on experience. She stayed on to complete a three-year residency in equine surgery, rounding out four years of advanced, surgery-focused training.
Back in Canada, Danica practised surgery at Momentum Equine Veterinary Specialists in Sherwood Park, Alberta, before joining the faculty at WCVM to teach large animal surgery. She has practised all over, but Saskatoon is home, and in 2026 she joined the team at Rhythm Equine.
For Danica, good medicine starts with connection: to the horse and to the person standing beside it. She believes in honest conversations, staying at the forefront of practice, and leaving ego at the door. Her approach is relationship-based, built on skill and trust.
Horses have been part of her life long before vet school. She grew up competing in three-day eventing on off-the-track Thoroughbreds, so she understands what your horse means to you. These days, when she isn’t in the clinic, she’s usually chasing her kids.
