Tiago Afonso completed an internship at the Ontario Veterinary College prior to a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Georgia (USA), where he also earned a PhD in equine cardiology.
He became board certified with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2016. He has held clinical and teaching roles in Australia, New Zealand, and at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM), University of Saskatchewan. In 2022, Tiago moved into industry as a Technical Services Veterinarian with Dechra. Since February 2026, he has served as Technical Services Veterinarian for Western Canada with Boehringer Ingelheim, supporting veterinarians with evidence-based equine health solutions.
